Adam and Eve
The Forbidden Tree, Covered in Light
Creation of Adam
First off, God created Adam and it wasn't until the Spirit of Life was "breathed in" did Adam become alive. Gen 2:7 "Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being."
Note that Adam is a direct creation of God like the Angels where you and I are not direct creations, but become new creations when we are born again where a new body is awaiting us that is based on life we have lived along with the Grace of God. The new body is a gift and a reward.
Covered in Light
In Gen 1:26:27 "(26) Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, ... (27) So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them." which means that Adam along with Eve were created after God's own "tselem", having a likeness to the glory of God's Luminescence known as Shekinah.
When we read in Exodus 34:29-35, when Moses spoke with God, that afterwards the Israelites where afraid to be near to Moses because of God's glory on his face so Moses had to put a veil over his face to hide God's glory. Exodus 34:29-35 "(29) When Moses came down from Mount Sinai with the two tablets of the covenant law in his hands, he was not aware that his face was radiant because he had spoken with the Lord. (30) When Aaron and all the Israelites saw Moses, his face was radiant, and they were afraid to come near him. (31) But Moses called to them; so Aaron and all the leaders of the community came back to him, and he spoke to them. (32) Afterward all the Israelites came near him, and he gave them all the commands the Lord had given him on Mount Sinai. (33) When Moses finished speaking to them, he put a veil over his face. (34) But whenever he entered the Lord’s presence to speak with him, he removed the veil until he came out. And when he came out and told the Israelites what he had been commanded, (35) they saw that his face was radiant. Then Moses would put the veil back over his face until he went in to speak with the Lord."
Again in Matt 17:1-2 "(1) After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James and John the brother of James, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. (2) There he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light."
Therefore, it is most likely that Adam and Eve, who were naked an unashamed Gen 2:25, were covered with light because they were in the presence of God because God talked with them.
Instructions to Adam, the Forbidden Tree
Gen 2:16-17 (16) "And the Lord God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; (17) but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.”
Notice it is not an apple and that God instructs Adam not to eat of it. Did that mean not to eat the leaves, the fruit, the bark or the sap? We learn in Gen 3 that Eve, the future wife of Adam, that she calls it a fruit. Notice the point being additionally made that there has to be a purpose for the tree there.
The tree was apparently visible and in the Garden. What we don't know is why it is there. Conjecture is maybe it was something Lucifer had planted, tainted or changed its original blessings. Since Lucifer had the knowledge of evil and is in the Garden in the form or possession of the snake, then we know he has already started in his rebellion. Note that later we learn from scripture that God declares war on Lucifer. Also we learn in Revelation that God is going to create a new Heaven. One possible reason, for the new Heaven, is because Lucifer and the Fallen Angels had dwelled there and tainted it. This is the correlation of the conjecture by this writer on Tree's fruit that Adam and Eve were not to eat.
Creation of Eve from Adam
Gen 2:18 "The Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.”"
Gen 2:21-23 "(21) So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs and then closed up the place with flesh. (22) Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. (23) The man said, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’ for she was taken out of man.”"
Notice in Gen 2:24 the importance given to the two becoming one flesh. Think for a moment that they were the only two people alive at this point and God is pointing out at this moment, for the future, that men will leave their father and mother to join with a wife. Gen 2:24 "That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh."
The Eating of the Fruit
Gen 3:1-7 "(1) Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?” (2) The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, (3) but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’” (4) “You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. (5) “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” (6) When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. (7) Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves."
Notice that Eve ate the fruit first and then Adam ate it. We do not know what was going through his mind. The failure in Adam's part was not stopping Eve. In the next section we learn that Adam was not deceived as Eve was. Eve was Adam's helper and Adam who was in the Garden before Eve is in charge where he should have stopped this from happening.
Who was deceived?
We know from 1 Tim 2:14 that Adam was not deceived by Lucifer "And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner." Note that the point is not to be negative against Eve or state that she was inferior to Adam in regards to the fall in Genesis but for us to see the future role of Jesus Christ.
We should ask ourselves:
It is apparent that Adam was acting as a "Type of Christ" or "Model of Christ" in his actions. Adam so loved Eve that he decided to join her in her predicament and her shame. Note that there are many examples throughout the Bible that men and women are acting as a model of Christ which we all should be aspiring. Do your own research on how many great examples like Joseph in Genesis and how he modeled the future Christ. Because of Adam's action, there was a future remedy made through the seed of the woman in Gen 3:15 "And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel."
Sound of God approaching
In Gen 3:8 "And they heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, ... " and Gen 3:10 "I heard the sound of You in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked, and I hid myself". Notice the "cool of the day" and "sound of You" where the first phrase probably should be translated strong wind blowing. When taken with verse 10 and the phrase "sound of You" makes better sense. This would be similar to when God spoke to Job in the whirlwind in Job 38:1.
There are so many beautiful, thought provoking, liberating, inspiring verses here in the first few chapters of Genesis which almost jumps off of the page requiring examination where the writer had to restrain himself to stay on topic while writing.
