Definition

A gun can be defined as a weapon that uses projectiles that are known as bullets or shells, but there also can be other projectile types.  The projectiles are sent out of a barrel tube at a high rate of speed.  There is either a combustible substance in the barrel tube or the combustible substance is part of the projectile.  The combustible substance is activated usually by a spark that causes an explosion to cause the projectile to go in the direction of where the barrel tube was pointing.

Because of the combustible component of a gun, which requires a spark (flame), the name of firearm is often used to describe a weapon that contains bullets or shells.   A gun is also sometimes called simply a weapon.

Why Does Anyone Need a Weapon?

There are many reasons for having a weapon, such as
  1. For protection,
  2. For hunting,
  3. For sport,
  4. For protection against tyrannical government, and
  5. For protecting one's country.

There is an increasing lack of respect for human life which is being caused by:

All of these four points, and many more, is causing the evil conclusion that human life has no meaning and no accountability to God.  There is always going to be evil people and police do not protect as they show up after someone a violent crime has already been committed.

The true problem, in the United States and many countries, is there are no laws and consequences to make

  1. having a gun in the commission of a crime,
  2. selling a gun illegally, or
  3. even owning gun when the person was legally forbidden

so harsh and punitive that the consequences are a deterrent.

The UK and Australia outlawed most types of firearms where the end result just allowed criminals all sorts of new means of conducting crimes and killing with the use of their illegal guns, knives, clubs and brute force without fear of their victims having a gun for protection.

In this author's travels to over five continents, there are countries with solutions that can effectively be deployed in the United States and other countries with gun violence problem that are solution to drastically reduce crimes executed with a gun.  The concepts are discussed later in this topic.

The anti-gun people, in the United States, seem to never bring up the hunting rifles owned by a percentage of people in almost every State in the United States, where statistics on crimes with hunting rifles is almost nonexistent, which proves laws against owning a weapon will not fix the gun violence.

Historical Perspective from WWII

At the time of the WWII Japanese attacked on Pearl Harbor, historians state the goal was to weaken the United States abilities to oppose the Japanese control and expansion in Asia.  There were no invasion plans of the USA, at that time, because Japan logistically was over extended, despite the Alaskan Aleutian Islands incursions which the historians state were meant as a diversion to keep the US Military also logistically challenged.

There was a well-known topic of discussion spoken, after WWII, concerning that period of time where it was said:

"The USA was never considered an invasion candidate by Japan in WWII because our citizens could put together a formable force to oppose them with all of the hunting rifles.

The foundation of this probably came from a legendary quote attributed to Isoroku Yamamoto, Commander-in-Chief of the Imperial Navy during WWII where he was reportedly to have said

"You cannot invade the mainland United States as there would be a rifle behind every blade of grass",

where there is no historical proof that he said it.  Regardless, the falsely attributed quote from Yamamoto probably had foundations in other post-war interviews of either him or other Japanese commanders where it was most likely a summarized paraphrasing.

Note that the Japan was considered in an invasion before the use of the Atomic Bomb, but few historical documentaries emphasize the following which is an excerpt from the killing and murder topic:

It is interesting, and in this author's opinion done intentionally, that no history book or website gives the full explanation, that I could find, why the Atomic Bomb was most likely used.  General Douglas MacArthur and top American Military commanders estimated in a full-scale invasion of Japan, there would be approximately:
(i) 1 million American military personnel killed, AND
(ii) multiple millions of Japanese military and civilian deaths caused in the act of protecting their country of Japan.

Therefore, the atomic bombs represented the most humane outcome to quicken a surrender by Japan.  This author absolutely believes that that was in the minds of everyone involved in approving the use of the two atomic bombs, albeit maybe not said publicly.

Historical sources are quick to point out the bombs killed approximately 90,000 and 40,000 immediately in Hiroshima and Nagasaki with tens of thousands of deaths from radiation exposure later.  This is far less significant than multiple millions of Japanese deaths, with the million Americans, during a full-scale invasion of Japan!

Border Problems in the Southern United States

In the USA there is a great deal of fear concerning:

  1. Human smuggling,
  2. Drug trafficking,
  3. Theft with a quick exit back across country lines by peoples from Mexico into the United States.

On the borders of the USA, the people who own farms, ranches and live in small communities have legitimate concerns to have protection from becoming victims in the illegal trafficking of people, drugs and theft.

Bad Neighborhoods

There is so much more to be said where the real problem is the lack of laws and processes to remove criminals from owning them along with removing criminals.  Furthermore, the bad neighborhoods that criminals have to live in because of low income with bad credit, show that even criminals have to have weapons to protect themselves from other criminals, which then aids and abets the problem by creating a high demand and underground market system for weapons.  Then there is also the good people in these poor neighborhoods who have to have weapons to protect themselves, knowing police do not stop crimes as they only react to crimes committed.  (Note in the year 2021, the politically left-wing motivated political affiliation groups that are calling for the de-funding of police has increased the fears and response to crime in many high-crime neighborhoods.)

The areas of the United States that have the strictest gun laws also have the highest murder and crime rates, which proves the strict gun laws, in their current format, do not work.  This is not because the laws is not enforced but because there is no deterrents with harsh penalties to remove, prevent and eliminate people who would use a weapon for theft, rape and murder.

Some websites try to make the claim that weapons are smuggled into States which strict gun laws so the real problem is States with low gun ownership regulations.  This is an incorrect connotative transfer which is illogical.  A murderer cannot make the claim that a murder was done because an illegal gun purchase was easily obtainable.  A murderer is going to use any weapon that is obtainable, such as knives, clubs, hammers and even their own hands regardless of availability of harder to obtain options.  Yes, the lower regulations of the sale of weapons are a problem but not a cause as the Great Prohibition proves that controlled items are always obtainable.

Problems and Solutions

The discussions around weapon have a great deal of controversy and debate where the logic being proposed by one side of the Political Voting Public does not represent the solutions that work best for most countries if not all countries.

A weapon for purposes of this topic is defined as any pistol, rifle, shotgun that uses gun powder to propel a bullet.  It is also commonly known as a Firearm.  It does not include knives, bats, clubs, etc.

The best way to find any solution to a problem is to research and see if there is a solution already for the problem. In the case of control and private ownerships of weapons, are there countries that have laws that have brought down crime?  Judge for yourself on the logic and practicality below.  Before reading, there is one very controversial concept that will affect your understanding and judgment which is capital punishment.  Capital punishment is the termination of life for a crime.

A quick question for you to consider.  With all the Local, City, County, State and Federal Politicians making political speeches about the need for Gun Control, have you ever once heard how they plan to take guns away from criminals

Most of the countries that have electoral process form of government have been moving away from capital punishment in favor of life imprisonment or substantial years in prison.  The question from a human psychology point of view is there a deterrent to crime if the punishment does not fit the crime?  In other words, if a person contemplates a crime, does the fear of the punishment persuade the person from not doing the crime?

Many people on the side of no capital punishment, have come to that decision because of the falsely accused and false imprisoned / executed.   This is absolutely a righteous concern where it becomes irrelevant in cases where a weapon was witnessed, caught on video or self-defense is ruled out.  Does God condone Capital Punishment and did He ordain it for man to administer it?  Yes, see these sample scriptures Exodus 21:12-14; Leviticus 24:17, 21; and Deuteronomy 19:16-19.  Does God forgive murder?

Longer Prison Sentence?

As pointed out in point in #3 and #6, the United States does not have harsh enough penalties and should treat crimes involving the use of a Gun as attempted murder.  As an example of the imbalance, consider Sara Jane More who served 32 years in prison for attempting to assassinate a former President of the United States Gerald Ford in 1975.  The rhetorical question, is a President's life more valuable in the eyes of God than anyone else?

Yes, it is true that God forgives Murders.  Remember that both Moses (Exodus 2:11-15) and King David (2 Samuel 11:14-15) committed Murder.  We know that both men were forgiven and are 'Saved' because of many scriptural references.  Additionally, Saul who became the Apostle Paul, participated in the death and imprisonment of Christians, where Stephen was stoned to death (Acts 7:58-8:3).  We know Paul is 'Saved'.

This is an excerpt from a website that as of 2019, describe some of the penalties in the United States that reinforce the point that the punishment for attempted and murder are to often lenient.  To paraphrase a famous line from several movies, "When you kill someone, you not only take their life but you rob them of everything they would have earned, enjoyed, created, affected for the years that they would have been alive.  Also you rob all of the people who would have loved, enjoyed, benefited from that person you have killed.

Can Weapons and Bullets be Made?

How are laws going to stop homemade weapons and bullets?  Has anyone even talked about musket style weapons in the media?  On the internet and in public libraries, there is documents detailing exactly how to make a musket and as a kid this author made gun powder out of Salt Peter ~ Potassium Nitrate, Charcoal and Sulfur, which are easily purchased, after reading about it in school.  Back in the 1970s, it was very common to hear about kids making pipe bombs for fun or making better July 4th Fireworks.

A good friend of this author made a musket, gun powder and his own round bullets in his garage for fun to use in a competition event in 2010 that he was considering entering which participants were required to use such a type of weapon.  While the ability to create a weapon is not that common, there are people with this skill set who can make weapons for the wrong reasons such as Kevin Janson Neal.

Scriptural References to Know

Some scriptural references are below.  As noted, God often shows mercy as He did with Moses who killed the Egyptian and King David who committed adultery before having Bathsheba husband "Uriah the Hittite" killed to cover up the illegitimate pregnancy.   Also, there is the point that we are no longer under the law of Moses, Col 2:14 and Heb 10:9.

1 Genesis 9:6 Whoever shed man's blood, his blood will be shed by man for God made man in His image.
2 Exodus 21:12 Whoever strikes a man so the man dies shall be put to death.
3 Exodus 21:16 Whoever steals a man and sells him, and anyone found in possession of him, shall be put to death.
4 Leviticus 24:17, 21 If anyone takes the life of a human being, he must be put to death.  ... whoever kills a man must be put to death.
