Preface

Many people think Slavery is no longer a major problem in the World.  In actuality, slavery is flourishing and is a completely Satanic control of the people who are the perpetrators of slavery.

This author, absolutely knows God will reward the slaves and the perpetrators will have righteous judgment against them in a scale that only God could administrate!

Matthew 25:40
Jesus Speaking
The King will reply, Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.

Scriptures Do Not Condone Racism

Two of the best scriptures, of many, that show that God loves:

are Revelation 7:9 and Matthew 24:14.  Both of these two scriptures, of many, without any doubt prove to all of us that racism and prejudice is scripturally wrong and evil.

Revelation 7:9 After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands,
Matthew 24:14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.

Special Note: There is one scriptural passage that is sometimes used by racists groups to condone racism, which is Genesis 9:18-27.  The scriptural passage has nothing to do with racism and prejudice.

When Governments Try to Correct Racism: In some countries, that require ethnicity identification, there are some very unfair and poorly represented selection requirements for governmental, educational and employment Forms when dealing with a world that is a beautiful kaleidoscope of races / ethnicities

As an example, in the United States as of 2022, there are Forms with:

  1. The selection of "Asian", that is forcing people of clearly different appearance:
    (a) Chinese,
    (b) Filipino,
    (c) Pacific Islanders,
    (d) Indians,
    (e) and other distinctively different appearing national origins from the continent of Asia
to be used because of the geographical origination.
  2. The selection of "Hispanic", that is forcing people of clearly different appearance:
    (a) Mians, Aztex and other tribes existing in Central and South America before and after European exploration
    (b) Brazilian,
    (c) Portuguese,
    (d) Many (not all) multiple-mixed race Caribbean Islanders
to be used because of the geographical origination.
  3. The selection of "African American", that is forcing people of clearly different appearance:
    (a) Sudanese,
    (b) Nigerian,
    (c) Angolans,
    (d) Many (not all) multiple-mixed race Caribbean Islanders,
    (d) and many others
to be used because of the geographical origination.
  4. The selection of  "Caucasian, White ~ Non-Hispanic", that is forcing people of clearly different appearance:
    (a) Italians,
    (b) Grecians,
    (c) Norwegians,
    (d) Albanians,
    (e) and many others
to be used because of the geographical origination.

Always there is God

Three primary points:

  1. Anything that all of us suffer in life can give us rewards in heaven and there is also the principles of the Age of Accountability to always remember, which in this author's opinion of the scriptures, also handles those who have never had the opportunity to know and accept Jesus Christ as their Savior.  This is important for someone in history that was a slave.
  2. Absolutely no one gets away with abuse, subjugation, slavery, theft and victimization of anyone.  It is difficult to witness, hear and read about any people or a person being the victim of a racism, cultural prejudice or any abuse.  From our perspective, we do not know the FULL consequences that the guilty person will be experiencing, but they are absolutely going to be experienced with also loss of rewards in heaven, if they happen to be a Christian.
  3. Many times, in life we often want to put ourselves in the place of God, to judge someone, which is not to be done, other than in the place of jury.  We also wish we go back in time, to stop and have revenge against evil people and evil things being done.  When we understand the consequences of someone being before Jesus Christ at the Great White Thrown of Judgment, along with seeing their life being judged with consequences, of varying degrees of punishment when going to the Lake of Fire, then we will actually be very sad for those who are condemned, which is why the scriptures speak about rejoicing in Luke 15:10.
Luke 15:10 Just so, I tell you, there is joy before the angels of God over one sinner who repents.

If you are a young person, then take some time to talk with an older Christian, whom is in the twilight years of their life.  If this older person has served and loves God, then God will have revealed many things where they should be able to tell you many accounts of people, they knew in their lifetime that reaped horrible consequences for evil they had done.  From our perspective, in this time period, we cannot know the consequences of those in the past who were racist, prejudice and had slaves, but the scriptures and empirical evidence from today teaches us they could not have had good lives no matter any material wealth.

Many years ago, a famous and wealthy TV show host made the comment: "people think that money solves all problem, but in reality, it just gives you a great deal more problems."  This author, at age 59, has seen the consequences of good and bad in many people.  Additionally, it seems that the people who have the best quality lives are those who first love God and do not have a great deal of wealth.

These are just a few scriptures to keep in mind regarding racism, subjugation, cultural prejudice or any abuse:

Matthew 25:40 The King will reply, Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.
John 13:34 I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another.
Galatians 6:7-8 7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. 8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.
Deuteronomy 32:35 Vengeance is mine, and recompense, for the time when their foot shall slip; for the day of their calamity is at hand, and their doom comes swiftly.
Mark 8:36 For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul?

Every Place in the World

Every place in the world, in its history has had a dominant ethnicity that with investigation can most likely be found to have deliberately or inadvertently exhibit racist and cultural prejudices.  Many people would argue that prejudices and racism is an external response to fear of others that are different.  Does it make it right?  The answer is absolutely "no".

There are becoming fewer and fewer places that remain that only contain one ethnicity and one cultural.  Consider the types of ethnicity and cultural changes that have occurred and are occurring in all geographical areas:

As already stated, it almost goes without saying that everyone should know that treating anyone of any different ethnicity or cultural is wrong.  Ignorance, apathy, selfishness, debase ideologies and fear are human attributes that are negative and are used for thought process that are:

There is the exception, to the list above, when a cultural or religious practice that commits anything against the basic and absolute tenants of a human being such as:

History Shows Us All

Recent history shows everyone that the world has had leaders that base their power and ability to gain financially through the use of racism and cultural prejudice because it is the easiest to polarize people against other people.  Not many people would disagree with this statement but the failure to recognize it when it is in their own ethnicity or cultural group is perplexing.

Slavery has always been in existence, where this link on the Hammurabi and his god given code of laws is a good example of many, many times in the past that have always had slavery.  Hammurabi is a collection of ancient laws where the slave trade was flourishing.

As examples in just recent history, consider the following very incomplete list but well-known points in history.  If we were to do an analysis that covers the entire world with the history of abuse, subjugation, slavery, theft and victimization by one group of people towards another, then this topic would be most likely thousands of thousands of pages long.

Roman Empire Example

Biblical Scholars, in many old books proving it has always been recognized, write about the Roman Empire's slave system that built cities, unified the empire through the road system and enforced a common language.  The empire had many evils, such as slavery, but the Biblical Scholars point out that it was because of the road system and common language that the Christian Faith grew with utilization of the empire.

With all of the countries of the entire world, participating in slavery for the entire history of the world, even unto today (discussed below), God has used the movement of people to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ.  This seems like an oxymoron statement, but with analysis, everywhere there has been great evil, such as slavery, the Gospel has spread because not everyone condoned or participated in the slave trade in places that men, women and children were brought into slavery.  God used good people to be there and speak about Jesus Christ.

Mark 16:15 And he said to them, Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.
Acts 13:47 For so the Lord has commanded us, saying, I have made you a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring salvation to the ends of the earth.

Barbary Corsairs

Most if not all of us are familiar with the African Slave trade but very few people are familiar with the other slave trades going at the same time.  There was more than one slave trade besides the African Slave trade.

The Barbary Corsairs were another group that were enslaving an approximated 1.25 million Europeans and anyone that they could get their hands on.  See this link for an interesting and enlightening read: https://www.ancient-origins.net/ancient-places-africa/white-slaves-barbary-002171  If the link is missing click here.

African Tribes Sold African Slaves

Many people are unaware that while there were Europeans that captured Africans for slaves, this was not the predominate method because of the logistic difficulties with excursions further into the continent.  Slave Ships, carried food and many types of products to trade with Slave Traders in the Ports established in many places in Africa.  There were many Tribes and Mercenaries that went all over Africa, fought against other Tribes in efforts to capture men, women and children along with stealing livestock.

Many countries such as Nigeria and Ghana have made public apologies for the past actions of the people in their country's actions.  Unfortunately, there is still subjugation and even slavery in some places in Africa even today.

Africa Now Has the Highest Modern-Day Enslavement

The appalling disgusting truth is the world does not know that Slavery has not ended.  Africa has the highest number of modern-day slaveries.  According to publications as of 2018, there are an estimated 9 Million Africans in slavery.   More detailed information can be read and downloaded at the Global Slavery Index website.

People Will Always Use Any Means for Power

The following diagram does not reflect true Christians and even the majority of people in the world, but sadly it has been one way of many types of cycles that has occurred everywhere on the planet.  Cultures and ethnicities have always been blended through wars, migrations, slavery and expansions.

As of 2020, the world is in a unique phase where there are more peoples of every ethnicity, culture and religion living literally everywhere with others, which gives opportunity for evil people to gain power through victimization, propaganda and untruths.  This does not mean that there is not racism, but that there are people who use it as a basis of power for financial and political gains.

This diagram also lists, in a very high level, the events occurring that were facilitated by the Nazis in Germany to gain power; AND is also the same process that the PLO have been using against the nation of Israel today.

In the Nazis case, the victim was portrayed as the German Citizen and one of the main causes was the Jewish People, who were blamed for many of Germany's problems.  In the PLO case, they have never missed an opportunity to miss an opportunity for peace, with continued terrorism for decades, that has actually got them recognized, power and money.  It has been said that the late leader of the PLO, Yasser Arafat who was Egyptian, has killed more of his own people, that he represented, to keep them in a state of homelessness and radicalized.

(One type of many types of cycles)

Communistic, Dictatorships and Totalitarianism forms of government do not have this problem as anyone instigating, organizing and participating in any opposing actions are arrested, imprisoned and often executed.

Slavery in the Scriptures

Many Christians, as well as this author, were initially very uncomfortable reading and understanding slavery in the scriptures.  The important part to starting any study is knowing the Holy Spirit is the true author of all scriptures, so examination of the meaning of the scriptural passages of slavery will yield a peace of mind that God is not condoning evil of any kind towards human-beings:

  1. The scriptures absolutely never instructed or allowed the practice of capturing by force another human-being where the captured human-being was forced into slavery.
  2. The scriptures absolutely never condoned abuse of any human-being in any position of life such as a free human-being and also a slave.
  3. The scriptures absolutely states to give sanctuary for an oppressed and mistreated slave.
  4. If someone kidnaps a person for any purpose that includes slavery, then this kidnapper is to be put to death.

Throughout history, and even in our current modern times, there are people who use scriptural passages out of context to condone forced slavery along with mistreatment.  This entire topic has already laboriously detailed many examples of modern-day slavery that is grossly evil beyond description and still prevalent in many places in the world where the people involved in slavery are participating in an extraordinary evil sin.

As one example of forced slavery in the numerous times in history, consider the times of warfare.  In a war there are casualties, human-being physical impairments, food and crops shortages, and great expense and financial loss by both sides of a conflict.  As read in the examples in the scriptures of the Old Testament, the winning army would take prisoners for slaves along with any possessions that include possessing the land as a means of restitution and reparations because of the cost and losses in the war.  This is not condoning forced slavery, but was commonly done.

In recent times, a great example of a restitution that happed is in the greatest war known which goes by two names:

At the end of WWII, the Russian military took German prisoners as slave labor, mostly army, to rebuild all the cities that were destroyed, including Moscow.  This author saw many famous buildings that were rebuilt by the German slave labor in Moscow during a recreational trip in 2010, and also toured the Great War's museum.  In the War Museum, amongst so many emotionally captivating exhibits, one exhibit showed the actual swastika flags and medallions used in the draping at Red Square which Russian Soldiers marched on top celebrating victory of the Great War.  (Note that this author was very emotionally moved at the museum's exhibits of the savage barbarity against Russian men, women and children murdered in the German so-called "blitzkriegs" and invasion battles, where seeing a collection of the actual relic swastika absolutely made me want to physically vomit.  After an estimated 10-years of slavery, the approximate 3,000,000 prisoners in the slave labor force began a process of being released with the option to go back to Eastern Germany, Austria, or assimilate into Russian society. Of the original 3,000,000, an estimated 1,000,000 lost their lives in the enslavement.

In the times of the Old Testament, it was a condoned and common approach for someone to give themselves into a form of servitude, ostensibly a slave, to pay off debt or even to gain something that can even be wife.  As read in Genesis Chapter 29, Jacob who later became Israel, was in servitude for fourteen years to gain Rachel where he ultimately gained Leah first, then Rachel along with two maid-servants.  Note that the maid-servants were in a type of role, that could be called a slave as they were maid-servants.  When the two maid servants, Bilhah and Zilpath, bore sons for Jacob, they became lesser-wives that were bound unto Jacob for the rest of their lives.

The following list are some of the well-known slavery scriptures, where there are many more that all have the same instructions and meanings.

1 Job 7:1-2 1 Do not mortals have hard service on earth? Are not their days like those of hired laborers? 2 Like a slave longing for the evening shadows, or a hired laborer waiting to be paid,
2 Job 31:13-14 13 If I have despised the claim of my male or female slaves  When they filed a complaint against me, 14 What then could I do when God arises? And when He calls me to account, what will I answer Him?
3 Genesis 15:12-6 12 As the sun was setting, Abram fell into a deep sleep, and a thick and dreadful darkness came over him. 13 Then the Lord said to him, Know for certain that for four hundred years your descendants will be strangers in a country not their own and that they will be enslaved and mistreated there. 14 But I will punish the nation they serve as slaves, and afterward they will come out with great possessions. 15 You, however, will go to your ancestors in peace and be buried at a good old age. 16 In the fourth generation your descendants will come back here, for the sin of the Amorites has not yet reached its full measure.
4 Leviticus 22:10-13

Instructions for a Priest
10 No one outside a priest s family may eat the sacred offering, nor may the guest of a priest or his hired worker eat it. 11 But if a priest buys a slave with money, or if slaves are born in his household, they may eat his food. 12 If a priest s daughter marries anyone other than a priest, she may not eat any of the sacred contributions. 13 But if a priest s daughter becomes a widow or is divorced, yet has no children, and she returns to live in her father s household as in her youth, she may eat her father s food. No unauthorized person, however, may eat it.
5 1 Peter 2:18-23 18 Slaves, in reverent fear of God submit yourselves to your masters, not only to those who are good and considerate, but also to those who are harsh. 19 For it is commendable if someone bears up under the pain of unjust suffering because they are conscious of God. 20 But how is it to your credit if you receive a beating for doing wrong and endure it? But if you suffer for doing good and you endure it, this is commendable before God. 21 To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps. 22 He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth. 23 When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly. 24 He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed. 25 For you were like sheep going astray, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.
6 1 Corinthians 7:21 19 Circumcision is nothing and uncircumcision is nothing. Keeping God s commands is what counts. 20 Each person should remain in the situation they were in when God called them. 21 Were you a slave when you were called? Don t let it trouble you although if you can gain your freedom, do so. 22 For the one who was a slave when called to faith in the Lord is the Lord s freed person; similarly, the one who was free when called is Christ s slave. 23 You were bought at a price; do not become slaves of human beings. 24 Brothers and sisters, each person, as responsible to God, should remain in the situation they were in when God called them.
7 1 Timothy 6:1-2 1 All who are under the yoke of slavery should consider their masters worthy of full respect, so that God s name and our teaching may not be slandered. 2 Those who have believing masters should not show them disrespect just because they are fellow believers. Instead, they should serve them even better because their masters are dear to them as fellow believers and are devoted to the welfare of their slaves.
8 Colossians 3:22 Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to curry their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord.
9 Ephesians 6:5-9 5 Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ. 6 Obey them not only to win their favor when their eye is on you, but as slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart. 7 Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not people, 8 because you know that the Lord will reward each one for whatever good they do, whether they are slave or free. 9 And masters, treat your slaves in the same way. Do not threaten them, since you know that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and there is no favoritism with him.
10 Colossians 4:1 Masters, provide your slaves with what is right and fair, because you know that you also have a Master in heaven.
11 Deuteronomy 23:15 If a slave has taken refuge with you, do not hand them over to their master.
12 Exodus 21:16 Anyone who kidnaps someone is to be put to death, whether the victim has been sold or is still in the kidnapper s possession.
13 Proverbs 22:16 One who oppresses the poor to increase his wealth and one who gives gifts to the rich both come to poverty.
14 Titus 2:9-10 9 Teach slaves to be subject to their masters in everything, to try to please them, not to talk back to them, 10 and not to steal from them, but to show that they can be fully trusted, so that in every way they will make the teaching about God our Savior attractive.

Notes on the scriptural passages:

  1. The book of Job is the oldest known books of the scriptures.  Job is stating that:
    (a) Both the slave and the free person have hard service in life.
    (b) The slave is longing for the evening shadows which implies the slave labors in crops and is male, but here is a time of day that a slave gets rest and freedom from laboring.
  2. Job is stating that he is in fear of mistreatment of a slave where the man Job knows that God will judge himself for doing evil.
  3. See the topic on Israel in bondage in Egypt and why the bondage occurred.
  4. The food given at the Temple was sacred and had explicit rules for use that including the ability to consume.  The food that could be eaten by a Priest could not necessarily be eaten by someone in the Priest's family and not anyone else outside of the Priest's family.  In Verse 11 the exception is given on a slave that is purchased can eat the food that was intended solely for the uses of the Priest.
    (a) Note that God did make provisions and exclusion such as David, before he became King in 1 Samuel 21:6, did eat of the Priestly food.  Jesus comments in Matthew 12:3 that God did not judge against David
  5. God is advising the slave to submit into faithful service, where if there is any wrong done unto the slave then God will view this commendable as this is the same thing that Jesus Christ did, which leads to rewards in Heaven for the slave as restitution for the slave
  6. Notice in verse 23 that the message is "do not become slaves of human beings", which in modern-times means exactly the same as it was in the times of the scriptures.  The meaning was not to become in debt, and it also implies to not cause others to become indebted to you that put yourself in the role of a slave master.
  7. Slaves should show respect to their masters so that the God believing slave does not slander God's name where the scriptures have all people to do honest work for their employer, that includes a slave master.  Notice that God is also commanding a slave master to treat their slave with respect and even more dignity.
  8. This is the same meaning as point number 5 shown above.
  9. This is the same meaning as point number 5 shown above.
  10. Same as what the person Job was stating in number 2, and also the same as number 7.
  11. This is one the best scriptures showing that God expects all of us to take care of anyone that is mistreated and especially a slave.
  12. Clearly the thought of God against slavery in the since of forced slavery should cause the death of the kidnapper.  Forced slavery is the same as murder.
  13. Clearly shows that increased wealth, at the expense of oppression, does NOT give happiness and in God's Judgment will lead to spiritual poverty and consequences at either the Judgment Seat of Christ or the Great White Thrown of Judgment.
  14. Masters of slaves are to act as a witness for God and to be be trusted by the slaves.

Bond Servant and Slave Meaning in the Scriptures

The scriptures have the admonition that we are to take on the role of a servant to one another and more specifically unto our God.  In some scriptures, the comparison is unto the role of a slave who loves his master and his master loves the slave, which is exactly what our God feels and shows to all of us that have trusted Jesus Christ as our personal Savior.

Romans 1:1 Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle and set apart for the gospel of God
Titus 1:1 Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God s elect, and the knowledge of the truth which is according to godliness,
2 Peter 1:1 Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained a like precious faith with us in the righteousness of our God and the Savior Jesus Christ:
Jude 1:1 Jude, a servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, to them that are called, beloved in God the Father, and kept for Jesus Christ:
Revelation 1:1 The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show unto his servants, even the things which must shortly come to pass: and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John;
