What is Sin?

All Christians, through the

should know what the word sin means.  As we mature in our Christian life, we should be sinning less and less.  One of the best description of sin is the deliberate act of doing anything that offends God.

To have a more and more fulfilling life is more about our relationship with God through Jesus Christ, which then will have the benefit of sinning less and less.  God desires a relationship with us that has nothing to do with being religious, and everything to do with a worshiping love and intimate friendship.

Besides sinful actions, our thoughts can offend and hurt God even when we do not act on a thought.  As human-beings, we understand that when someone loves us, then our thoughts and actions can hurt and betray the person who loves us.  This applies more fervently with ways we can offend and hurt God because God loves us.

Ephesians 4:30-31 30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. 31 Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice.

The standard that Jesus Christ displayed for us in His life, shows us that we have the potential to be perfect in our relationship with God, other human-beings, God's Creation and so much more.  When we follow the instructions of Jesus Christ then our path will have rest and our burdens will be light.

Matthew 5:48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.
Matthew 11:28-30 28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.

What are Secret Sins?

All sins are against God, even when we think a sin is only against someone else and ourselves.

Matthew 25:40 And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.
Matthew 25:45 Then he will answer them, saying, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.

A Secret Sin is often a habitual action, but could have only been done once, that has the attention of being hidden where:

  1. The sin is only known by the person committing the sin, or
  2. The sin is only known by a few people that are witnessing or participating in the sin.

The difference between a Secret Sin, and all other types of other sins, is the perpetrator of the Secret Sin is hiding the sinful action.  The Secret Sin often will become a habit or an addiction.

Five examples, of many, that are common forms of Secret Sins that are being hidden:

  1. A drug or alcohol habit,
  2. Flirting while being married or an affair,
  3. Viewing pornography, illicit materials and videos,
  4. Not giving an Employer a full day of labor, and
  5. Gossiping against others.

Five example of many, that are common sins that are NOT secret are:

  1. Not fulfilling a promise or labor that monetary payment was received.
  2. Not returning borrowed items.
  3. Robbing or stealing openly in front of others that include looting.
  4. Destroying someone property that is owned by others or a company.
  5. Dangerous driving of a vehicle.

Secret Sins can be the most dangerous types of sins for all of us who have Salvation as

Secret Sin also have the potential of opening other avenues to other Secret Sins.  When we participate in Secret Sins, then God always gives us time through His Mercy and Grace to

where consequences from God are administrated in a loving and corrective judgment for Christians, and even those who are destined to have Salvation through asking Jesus Christ to be their Savior

When we receive God's Judgment, which is always with Mercy and Grace, then the result will be emotionally and possibly physically painful, where we always should absolutely know the results:

Unfortunately, many Christians do not understand the full meaning of sowing and reaping where negative consequences occur from negative sowing.

When we stop in participating in Secret Sins, then blessings from God are always given.  The most exciting realization in the Christian's life is understanding that when we conduct our lives in a pleasing manner unto God then all actions against us that involve righteous suffering will have the opposite effect intended by evil entities as they cause blessing and rewards in Heaven even if we suffer unto death.

Secret Sins Primary Attributes

Secret sins have these primary attributes and problems:

  1. There is the possibility that when we sin in secret then we can eventually think it is not a sin.   See 1 John 1:18.
  2. When we sin, then we are separating ourselves from God.  See Isaiah 59:1-2.
  3. When we deliberately continue in sinning, especially Secret Sinning, then the sin has the potential for receiving a full punishment judgment, as read in Hebrews 10:26-31.   When we are repentant and sorrowful, we rely on the Grace and Mercy of God to not receive a full consequence judgment.

    (a) Many Christians and even non-Christians have seen the patterns in life of Karma from sowing and reaping negatively and positively.  This author, in his sixty-three years of living, has absolutely seen and always seen consequences in my own life and others.
Galatians 6:7-8 7 Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. 8 Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.

    (b) The Hebrews 10:26-31 is sometimes interpreted as loss of Salvation, which is impossible.  The key to the passage is "The Lord will judge his people", which means those people that are God's people.  The consequence is a forced judgment, "fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God", which we do not want to have happen, which is forced to happen after taking for granted the payment for the sins by Jesus Christ on the Cross and Psalm 53.  When we continue in sin openly and in secret, thinking there is no consequences because of the payment on the Cross by Jesus Christ, then this is "sinning deliberately" that forces God to have exercise corrective actions done to correct (stop) the sinning.

Sins and Secret Sins often:

  1. Start with a deception,
  2. Followed by a separation from God's influence because of our sinful action, and
  3. Then followed by a judgment from God which is for correction of the Christian's life.
1 John 1:8 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
Isaiah 59:1-2 1 Behold, the Lord's hand is not shortened, that it cannot save, or his ear dull, that it cannot hear; 2 but your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not hear.
Hebrews 10:26-31 26 For if we go on sinning deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, 27 but a fearful expectation of judgment, and a fury of fire that will consume the adversaries. 28 Anyone who has set aside the law of Moses dies without mercy on the evidence of two or three witnesses. 29 How much worse punishment, do you think, will be deserved by the one who has trampled underfoot the Son of God, and has profaned the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has outraged the Spirit of grace? 30 For we know him who said, “Vengeance is mine; I will repay.” And again, “The Lord will judge his people.” 31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

The Deception of Secret Sins

Secret Sins have primarily four deceptions:

  1. Incorrectly believe that a Secret Sin only hurts ourselves, therefore does not have any or very minor consequences.
  2. Incorrectly believe that a Secret Sin will not affect our relationship with God.
  3. Incorrectly believe that some Secret Sins are done by everyone so God understands and always has Grace and Mercy on us when we do any secret sin so there is little of no consequences.
  4. Incorrectly believe that there are Secret Sins that can never be stopped from happening in our lives so we continue doing them.
Secret Sins are one of the greatest obstacles and barriers that are:
  • Preventing God from blessing all of us to our greatest potential to have a more complete relationship with Him.
  • Preventing God from blessing all of us to receive and enjoy more fulfilling relationships with others.
  • Preventing God from blessing all of us with maximized rewarding lives and more eternal Rewards in Heaven that include greater glorified bodies.

Areas of Secret Sins

The scriptures gives us the understanding of how we sin that eventually will be made known publically.  Below is a list of seven types of areas that all of us can commit, that can be done secretly or with a few other people.

  Area Short Description
1 Jealousy Being jealous and envious of others.
2 Speech and Abuse of Power against someone Gossiping against others, Slander, False Witness, and demeaning others in abuse of authority and power.  Witnesses hearing do not know if the speech was truthful and if the recipient (victim) required negative speech or action.
3 Consumption Using
(a) alcohol,
(b) drugs that are prescribed and illegal,
(c) food in excess along with bad diet that harms our body,
(d) desserts
to make oneself happy and cope against problems.
4 Lust and
Emotional Desires
These are four areas:
(a) Desiring the affection and physical contact of someone that is not available because of marriage to someone else.
(b) Having an Affair
(c) Using Pornography, illicit materials and videos.
(d) Depriving one's spouse of regular intimacy that includes sex as being part of a covenant relationship.
5 Excessiveness Excessive lifestyles that focus on anything that takes away from focus on God and family
6 Self-Righteousness (a) Believing we are superior, loved by God more and even judging others because of our knowledge of scriptures, misunderstanding of righteousness, and experiences with God.
(b) Believing that we are okay with our secret sins because they are so many people publicly doing so many sins that we consider are worse sins to commit.
(c) Believing everyone does Secret Sins so our specific types of Secret Sins are okay and will have no consequences.
7 Laziness NOT taking time to
(a) Maintain a relationship with God through prayer, study of the scriptures
(b) Exercise our body which is the Temple of the Holy Spirit
(c) Provide for oneself and family obligations by working to provide monetary and substance for life

Too often in our lives we have heard the common speech, that has several variations of how it is spoken, that states:

"What I do in secret will never hurt my spouse, children, friends, others or employers because they won't know about it.  Besides all of that, I know that God wants me to be happy so I don't care as long as I am not hurting someone."

This common speech is an absolutely evil deception as all sin have consequences and all things are known by God.

Luke 8:17  For nothing is hid, that shall not be made manifest; nor anything secret, that shall not be known and come to light.

Can Secret Sins hurt us and have us Forfeit God's Blessings?

There is a deception of all types of sinning, including Secret Sinning, where if we understood fully the consequences, then a better decision not to participate in sinning would be made.  When sinning and Secretly Sinning, there is the possibility that a person may:

Forgiveness, stopping, and the reasons to stop sinning will have corrections, under Grace and Mercy, followed by blessings.  All sinning hurts our relationship with God where when our relationship is restored fully, then God's blessing will resume.

The most important aspects of many, when we ask and accept Jesus Christ as our Savior, are:

  1. Permanently Marked (sealed) by God to receive entrance into Eternity with God.   See Ephesians 1:12-14 shown below and many, many others.
  2. It is impossible for anyone to lose Salvation, once receiving Salvation.  See Romans 3:23-24 shown below and many, many others.
  3. Jesus Christ informed us that we would suffer (tribulation) in our life because of our belief and acceptance of Him, but He conquered all things that will bring us peace even in tribulation that may involve even death.
  4. Grace and Mercy is how all of us receive Salvation and this give us forgiveness of sins that would have prevented us from entering into Eternity with God, but that does not mean the sins we commit do not have necessarily have consequences.  God can and does have mercy on all of us sinners.  Romans 9:15.
Ephesians 1:12-14 12 to the end that we should be unto the praise of his glory, we who had before hoped in Christ: 13 in whom ye also, having heard the word of the truth, the gospel of your salvation,—in whom, having also believed, ye were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, 14 which is an earnest of our inheritance, unto the redemption of God’s own possession, unto the praise of his glory.
Romans 3:23-24 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus."
John 16:32-33 32 Behold, the hour cometh, yea, is come, that ye shall be scattered, every man to his own, and shall leave me alone: and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me. 33 These things have I spoken unto you, that in me ye may have peace. In the world ye have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
Romans 9:15 For he says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.”

Knowing of all the extraordinary, wonderful and above our ability to comprehend blessing we have in Jesus Christ, then we should recognize Secret Sins can:

  1. Hurt our relationship with God and the blessings to receive in our life, and
  2. Stop the process of adding Eternal Rewards in Heaven.
Note: There is absolutely no sin we can commit to lose Salvation once it is received as it was a gift that was given and not earned, and more than that God states in many scriptures that it is impossible to lose.  See the topic on it is impossible to lose Salvation for a greater understanding that also reflects the Omniscience, Absolute Power and Love beyond understand that God Is.

One of the paramount questions to consider, where the answer is "yes", is can God be offended by something we believe hurts only ourselves?  The previous section in this topic listed common Secret Sin areas where there are obviously other sins, and God expects us to overcome all of our sinful natures as we mature through the power of the Holy Spirit in our lives because of the acceptance of Jesus Christ as our Savior.

How do we stop doing Secret Sins?

All Christians, that are growing in our Faith and maturity, will realize that we are not perfect.  We also realize that we can do better in our relationship with God and others.

The Holy Spirit that indwells us, which we can unfortunately suppress His influence because of our sins and also thoughts.  The Holy Spirit is there always for us to recognize sins and conquer the desires to continue in them.  See Matthew 15:9-20 for knowledge that our "our heart", which is our inner being's desires, is the place that must change in our life to stop Secret Sins and all sins.

Matthew 15:5-9 5 But ye say, Whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, That wherewith thou mightest have been profited by me is given to God; 6 he shall not honor his father. And ye have made void the word of God because of your tradition. 7 Ye hypocrites, well did Isaiah prophesy of you, saying, 8 This people honoreth me with their lips; But their heart is far from me. 9 But in vain do they worship me,
Teaching as their doctrines the precepts of men.
Matthew 15:13-20 13 But he answered and said, Every plant which my heavenly Father planted not, shall be rooted up. 14 Let them alone: they are blind guides. And if the blind guide the blind, both shall fall into a pit. 15 And Peter answered and said unto him, Declare unto us the parable. 16 And he said, Are ye also even yet without understanding? 17 Perceive ye not, that whatsoever goeth into the mouth passeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draught? 18 But the things which proceed out of the mouth come forth out of the heart; and they defile the man. 19 For out of the heart come forth evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, railings: 20 these are the things which defile the man; but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not the man.

The revelation, that comes with Christian maturity, is Secret Sins are stopping all of us to obtain greater outcomes in our lives and Rewards in Heaven.  When we are sinning then we can simply ask God for assistance and a starting point to stop.

All sins are known and there is a great motivator in our life to persevere and conquer.  We are constantly encouraged, strengthened and rewarded by God when we are acting as we should.

Hebrews 12:1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,
Mark 4:22 For there is nothing hid, save that it should be manifested; neither was anything made secret, but that it should come to light.

When we realize that for God, there is knowing done in secret that will come to light, then the

should motivate us to stop all forms of Secret Sinning.   God will bless us for stopping, which will replace the selfish and temporary benefit of any sin with God's rewards.  Do not be deceived that a Secret Sin will give you any type of benefit, as all Secret Sins will bring negative consequences that are greater than any enjoyment out of sinning.

Matthew 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Everyone of us has Secret Sins

In this author's opinion, everyone of us have Secret Sins, that can manifest at different points in our life, which we must deal with before increasingly harsh consequences occur that happen for loving correction by God.  God, in a moment by moment basis, is involved in our lives where God loves us where blessings are based on how we react to Him and move through adversity, which can include even death.

When we enter Eternity and receive Rewards in Heaven, then all suffering and even death, when we had Faith and acted as God would have wanted us to act, will have rewards that make absolutely all actions by Satanic Forces and evil people have the opposite end effect.  We will be better off in Eternity because of what has occurred in our lives that was originally intended by evil to hurt us.

In one scriptural example, dealing with a Secret Sin that became publically known, is the judgment of the sin as read in 1 Corinthians 5:1-5.  The man, involved in the sin, was in the fellowship where we are not told if he had Salvation, but the inference is the man did NOT have Salvation even though he was in the fellowship.  (See Acts 20:29 about evil entering fellowships of Christians.)  Notice there was people in the fellowship that were "proud" of the man which indicates their Spiritual ignorance that was pervasive in the fellowship.  It is evident that some of the people, who were at the fellowship, "vicious wolves", where there for alternative purposes that could have been business and social networking along for preying on vulnerability for their carnal desires.  Ultimately, Paul's prayer for a horrible consequence to the man, was for the man's possible Salvation to be achieved.

Acts 20:29 I know that false teachers, like vicious wolves, will come in among you after I leave, not sparing the flock.
1 Corinthians 5:1-5 1 It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and of a kind that is intolerable even among pagans: A man has his father’s wife. 2 And you are proud! Shouldn’t you rather have been stricken with grief and have removed from your fellowship the man who did this?

3 Although I am absent from you in body, I am present with you in spirit, and I have already pronounced judgment on the one who did this, just as if I were present. 4 When you are assembled in the name of our Lord Jesus and I am with you in spirit, along with the power of the Lord Jesus, 5 hand this man over to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so that his spirit may be saved on the Day of the Lord.

When we are sinning in secret or openly, without repentance, then the scriptures inform us of consequences.  Even secret one-time sins, can have consequences, where we must seek God immediately for forgiveness through confession and repenting.  Our refuge for sins is Jesus Christ that is available for every sin that can be committed when we repent and if required, make restitution.
