Living Up To Christ's Mandate?

A Christian and especially anyone who is active in critiquing Politics, Government Programs and maybe even how their Church is administrating its charities, needs to be cognizant of their own financial management.  The question that this author is always trying to ask myself, is my life exemplifying and serving in the manner that God intends which includes being involved in my community and country. With humble openness, I have not always done so.

The point of this topic, is the embarrassment for myself not always living up to what I know is correct and also the indignant feelings towards those who blame others for their country and the world's problems but are not contributing to the solutions and human basic needs of others.  With today's social media outlets, that people give their opinions, and the political correct entertainment and news industry, it is hard to not be bombarded by outlandish theories and criticisms that someone else is to blame for literally everything.  Additionally, with the abuse of power and mismanagement in Government and in our places of Employment, it is understandable why so many people only take care of themselves and not others.

This author is keenly aware of the many scriptures to not judge, but there is righteous judgment.  This topic is about trying to get all Christians to help one another and those who have basic human needs such as a place to live, food and opportunities.  So much of the negative news that even blames Christianity for the world's problems is somewhat justified if Christians, including this author, are not doing our parts.

Matthew 7:1-5 1 “Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. 3 Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye.
John 7:24 Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.

What is a Christian Hypocrite?

It is the opinion of this author that any person living in the United States, along with living in many other prosperous countries, with very limited exception on a person's financial situation, can always:

  1. Give at least 3% of their gross income to charities that assist humanity.
  2. Support at least two children, in very poor areas of the world, through organizations like: Children International or Compassion International, which starts at an age before 5 years old to adulthood.  Look for organizations that use only minimal amounts of donated dollars for administration.  Monthly is around $25 to $35 a child / teenager.
  3. Give at least $20 a month to homeless organization in the city where you live.  This can include food item donations with the charitable dollar donations.
  4. Give at least $20 a month or more to family crisis centers to help families, woman and children.
  5. Give at least $20 a month or more to living centers that provide homes for children and teenagers that were abandoned or kicked out of their homes for any reason such as teenage pregnancy, drug and alcohol addictions, or to escape abuse / violence.
  6. Give at least $20 a month or more to orphanages.
  7. In different points in your life, purchase or give your used vehicles to someone or a family that is in need of a vehicle to get to work and/or school.  This may require you helping in transferring a car title.
  8. Volunteer sporadically or regularly at crisis centers, food banks, shelters, Public Park clean ups and also anything that benefits children, teenagers, senior citizens, mentally handicapped or physically handicapped.
  9. Do random anonymous acts of kindness like purchasing a meal for someone in the drive-through lane behind your car or a meal at a restaurant for someone who looks like they could use the gift.

(The percentages and US Dollar amounts are based on 2019 figures.)

1 John 3:17 But if anyone has the world's goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God's love abide in him?
James 2:15-17 15 If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? 17 Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. 18 But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. 19 You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble! 20 But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead?
Matthew 25:40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.

Regarding Politics and Solutions

If any of us, which includes this author, are not doing the majority of items in the above list, then in this author’s opinion:

  1. You and me should not be voting on how much in taxes that people in higher incomes should be required to pay.
  2. You and me should not be complaining about the other Political Parties on Social Media or in public areas where people can hear or read our comments.
  3. You and me do not have the right to complain about government policies regarding anything that deals with social benefits to people since we are not part of the solution.
  4. You and me are proving and maybe intentionally showing ungratefulness for the privileges and opportunity to be living in the United States and a prosperous country, along with being selfish with our money and talents that we could be using to help our fellow human beings.
  5. You and me are saying "Do as I say, not as I do" and we are making other people do our part.

The framers of the Constitution of the United States gave its citizens a marvelous document and laws.  This author heard a great speech from Eric Metaxas, who was speaking about his book "If You Can Keep It".  During the speech, Eric mentioned he heard from someone, who I unfortunately have forgotten, something to the effect of America's government can only succeed as long the majority of citizens are virtuous.

I have purchased the book and hopefully I will find the quote and correct it here in this topic along with give credit to whom Eric spoke about at a later date.  The point that I believe Eric was making is when the majority of people become virtuous in any country, then it changes every facet of the lives in that country for the better.
