Methuselah lived in the antediluvian era before the Great Flood.  Biblical Scholars have said his named meant "His death shall bring" or "to send forth".  Some general notes concerning Methuselah:

Genesis 5:21 When Enoch had lived 65 years, he became the father of Methuselah.
Genesis 5:27 25 And Methuselah lived a hundred eighty and seven years, and begat Lamech: 26 and Methuselah lived after he begat Lamech seven hundred eighty and two years, and begat sons and daughters: 27 and all the days of Methuselah were nine hundred sixty and nine years: and he died.

Methuselah has part of the lineage of Noah, which started with Adam and Eve.
