Two References

There are two references in the Bible to "The Book of Jashar" or "The Book of Jasher" in the Old Testament which we do not have canonical copies.  Some Biblical Scholars mention that there are some versions of the book, not recognized as authentic, that are in existence.  These copies appear to be written much later that the events in the scriptures that are referenced.

Joshua 10:13 So the sun stood still, and the moon stopped, until the nation avenged themselves of their enemies.  Is it not written in the book of Jashar?  And the sun stopped in the middle of the sky, did not hasten to go down for a about a whole day.
2 Samuel 1:18 and he told them to teach the sons of Judah the song of the bow; behold, it is written in the book of Jashar

The meaning of the word "Jashar" is "Upright" or "Correct Record".  It should be more properly read as "The Book of the Upright" or "The Book of the Correct Record".   In recent centuries, it was thought that Jashar was a proper name for the author.  In Hebrew the pronoun 'the' (Hebrew 'ha') does not ever proceed the proper names.

The Book of the Correct Record

The Book of Jashar is most likely a journal where in English we might call it the "Book of the Correct Record".  The copies that are around today, that are not considered inspired or necessarily reliable, contains many of the scriptures, with variation written in the Tanakh

Note that many Biblical Scholars state the copies that are available today are a contrived book that was written thousands of years after the proposed date where the original book was lost because it was not considered part of the Tanach or books of the minor prophets.

There are other Books mentioned in the Scriptures, which we do not have copies.

Promise Land Invasion - Seven Divisions Book

In Joshua 18:9 there is a reference to Book which we do not have any copies that is described as "Seven Divisions in a Book":

Joshua 18:9 So the men went and passed through the land, and described it by the cities in seven divisions in a book; and they came to Joshua to the camp at Shiloh.

Many Biblical commentaries state that is simply a book of surveys containing maps of the country with the topography, inhabitants, animals and farming areas, which Joshua sent had written down for considering the invasion conquest areas of the Promise Land.
