Hope is Godly Assurance that Comforts Us

The word hope has taken on a different meaning than the time that the scriptures were translated into English and other languages.  The word hope for our time in history means a desire and expectation for an event to happen.

In the scriptures the correct meaning of hope is an assurance of an event or work will occur where we receive comfort from the knowledge.  The event is guaranteed to occur and will absolutely happen because God is the Grantor.  A Grantor is the person who owns something and is giving or transferring an asset or an act of service.

In Titus 2:13-14, we are told about "our blessed hope" which is stating that Jesus Christ will appear.  As Christians, we know and believe that Jesus Christ is our Savior and through His work on the Cross gave us Salvation when we believed and accepted Him.  The "Blessed Hope" will absolutely occur and we receive comfort from the hope.

Titus 2:13-14 13 waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, 14 who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works.

Hope is also believing where God gives us the Faith to trust Him.

Without Hope

Without hope, we all have no reason to go on with life.  Even the evilest human beings have hope that they will have another day to be wicked which keeps them going.  Biblical Scholars often have stated that without hope of doing evil, then Lucifer and Satanic Forces would have no motivation to continue and try to thwart the plans of God.  We also know that Lucifer's greatest plan is to stop Israel from recognizing their Savior so that Jesus Christ cannot come back to Earth, which is why there have been the genocide attempts against Israel by so many peoples and countries.

Without hope, the Christian would not have any motivation to perceiver against the obstacles, challenges, difficulties and tragedies in life.  Our Christian Works is part of living and aspiring to gain our rewards in eternity.

The Five Points of Christian Works

  1. Developing our relationship with God during our life,
  2. Activities in God's Service,
  3. Faithfulness to the guidance of the Holy Spirit,
  4. Righteously suffering, and
  5. Overcoming sinful areas and obstacles in life through the Holy Spirit.

Scriptural References

The scriptures give us so many beautiful verses that help us in the area of understanding hope as a Christian.  As stated at the start of this topic, hope is also believing where God gives us the Faith to trust Him.

Isaiah 43:1-2 1 But now thus says the Lord, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. 2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you.
Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.
Philippians 3:13-14 13 Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
Romans 8:24-25 24 For in this hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees? 25 But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.
